Bacteriology Laboratory Canterbury Health Laboratories Permanent, Full-time Permanent, Part-time (0.4 - 0.6 FTE weekend cover) Vacancy 19822. Closing 10/02/12
The Bacteriology Laboratory at Canterbury Health Laboratories is seeking to fill two positions on the permanent roster. One position covers a Monday – Friday shift at 1 FTE while the other position is on a permanent weekend shift (0.4 – 0.6 FTE) with the opportunity to gain additional hours as a casual to cover staff absences. Both positions have an expectation that the successful applicant will be available for overtime and have the availability to work on our out-of-hours and Public Holiday roster.
If you are interested in working in a busy laboratory offering varied work that is both hospital and community based then we are interested in talking to you. The successful applicants will be motivated, flexible and have a high attention to detail. Registration (or the ability to gain registration) with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand is essential. Previous experience in a diagnostic laboratory is preferred.

We are seeking a registered Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Microbiology laboratory based in central Tauranga. This is a full-time position in our busy 24/7 laboratory, and will require roster participation, including after hours and weekend work.
Ideally you will have a sound medical Microbiology and/or Molecular Diagnostic background, with practical experience or proven ability in the provision of a similar service. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team are essential.

We are currently recruiting for a Charge Scientist to lead our Histology team at Nelson Hospital. Your key responsibility will be to supervise the routine work of the laboratory, preparing tissue sections ready for examination according to IANZ approved standards and a strict code of safe laboratory practice. You will provide high-level troubleshooting skills to methods, machines and systems; be involved in ongoing staff training/education; carry out routine histology duties, and provide guidance to your team.
As an integral member of the team at Medlab, you will be an effective communicator; provide leadership and possess good interpersonal skills; be self-motivated, flexible and service oriented; be quality conscious; be able to work under pressure; and be competent in dealing with high volumes of work in a precise and timely manner. Mortuary management experience would be an advantage. You will possess the attributes and personality to complement our supportive and friendly team environment. You must hold full (not pending) registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the New Zealand Medical Laboratory Science Board.
