role of the NZIMLS
The NZIMLS is the professional organisation that represents Medical Laboratory Scientists and Technicians in New Zealand. Its goal is to promote the profession through the provision of continuing education and professional examinations and to improve the quality of laboratory services for the ultimate benefit of the patient. It does this through:
Continuing education
- Special Interest Group (SIG) meetings
- Annual Scientific Meeting
- South Pacific Congress of MLS (SPC)
Professional examinations
- Medical Laboratory Technician (QMLT), Phlebotomy Technician (QPT) and Qualified Specimen Services Technician (QSST). As from 2009, the examination for Qualified Donor Technician (QDT) will be offered.
- NZIMLS Fellowship (FNZIMLS)
Professional development programme
- NZIMLS CPD programme (CPD)
Professional affairs
- Representation on University MLS programme advisory committees
- Representation of the profession at MLS Registration Board level
- Liaison with Government Departments, related agencies and other groups
- Liaison with other Registered Health Profession's organisations
