The CPD programme has been developed to assist practitioners with ongoing laboratory competence, a requirement for practice as a Scientist or Technician in New Zealand's diagnostic pathology laboratories. The programme is available to Registered Medical Laboratory Scientists, Scientific Officers and Technicians and Pre-analytical Technicians providing a points system for laboratory competencies and ongoing education.
Satisfactory performance in a Professional Development programme (e.g. NZIMLS CPD) is a requirement of an Annual Practising Certificate issued by the Medical Sciences Council of NZ (MSCNZ). This is required to work in a diagnostic pathology laboratory in New Zealand. The CPD programme is one of three (Scientist) and two (Technician) MSCNZ approved re-certification programmes available to laboratory practitioners in New Zealand.
