The CPD programme has been developed to assist practitioners with ongoing laboratory competence a requirement for practice as a Scientist or Technician in New Zealand's diagnostic pathology laboratories. The programme is available to Registered Medical Laboratory Scientists, Scientific Officers (Scientist programme) and Technicians (Technician programme) providing a points system for laboratory competencies and ongoing education.
Scientists are required to accumulate approx. 100 points per year or a minimum of 300 points over a three year period (differs for Technicians - see Technician programme). Satisfactory performance in a re-certification programme (e.g. NZIMLS CPD) is a requirement of an annual practising certificate issued by the NZ Medical Sciences Council (MSC) that is required to work in diagnostic pathology. The CPD programme is one of three (scientist) and two (Technician) MSC approved re-certification programmes available to laboratory practitioners in NZ.
To join, participants must first complete the enrolment form and submit it to the Office of the NZIMLS. If you have any queries about your eligibility to join the programme, or require more information about the programme, please contact Jillian Broadbent.
