Chief Executive Officer

Sharon has been employed by NZIMLS since 2006. Coming from a secretarial/accounting background, Sharon is tasked with ensuring the smooth running of the Institute's Executive Office including all operational aspects and maintaining the website. Sharon also publishes the Journal of Medical Laboratory Science and is a member of the NZJMLS Editorial Board.

Sharon serves as the primary liaison between members and the Council, and may be contacted regarding any matters you wish to raise. She is highly dedicated to her role and consistently works to maintain strong communication and deliver positive outcomes for members.

A keen designer and seamstress, Sharon has a Diploma in Tailoring, and in 2015 completed a Diploma of Business Studies endorsed in Accounting, with Massey University (extra-murally). Sharon holds membership of Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand, as an Accounting Technician.

CPD Coordinator

Jillian was contracted to NZIMLS as CPD Coordinator, a role she commenced in January 2005. She is now employed full-time. Jillian is a Fellow of NZIMLS, and is on the Fellowship Committee and was awarded Life Membership at the 2024 Annual Scientific Meeting.

Jillian is the first point of call for CPD enquiries.

In her spare time, Jillian enjoys sailing, cycling and dragon-boat racing, competing internationally (and very successfully) with the 'Abreast of Life' dragon-boat team.

Finance Administrator

Initially employed as a temporary employee in March 2024, Fran was recruited in a permanent part-time role as Finance Administrator in November 2024. 

Fran worked at an Accountancy Firm then a Recruitment Company while completing her Bachelor of Business Management before starting a family. Fran was then a stay at home Mum until both their children started school. 

Fran resides with her family on a lifestyle block in North Canterbury and her daughters currently attend the local primary school. She is the Treasurer of the School PTA and local netball club and enjoys making a positive contribution to their daughter’s interests.  In her spare time, she enjoys walking, boating, and relaxing on Banks Peninsula with her family and pets. 

Membership & CPD Administrator

Cathy has been employed in a permanent part-time role as Membership and CPD Administrator since April 2025. She is the primary contact for membership and event registration enquiries. Cathy is also the back-up for Jillian Broadbent for any CPD queries.

Cathy comes from a lab technician background, with experience in microbiology, specimen services, and research project coordination. She holds a BSc from Canterbury University.

In her home life, Cathy is a busy mum of two boys, a keen baker and dog lover. She enjoys contributing to both of her son's schools as parent help, supporting the PTA and previously as a member of the Board of Trustees.
