Awanui Labs Taranaki (previously known as Taranaki Pathology Services) provides high quality diagnostic pathology services to the community, health care professionals and their patients. Awanui Labs Taranaki is owned by Awanui Group (Previously known as Asia Pacific Healthcare Group), a healthcare company committed to providing facilities and services that deliver exceptional care to its clients.

Our Taranaki laboratory provides both public hospital and community anatomic pathology services, serving a population of approximately 125,000. The Anatomical Pathology department processes over 14,000 surgical and 1000 Cytology cases each year.

About the role:

• Oversee the Biochemistry Department, ensuring high-quality services, maintaining a stable and motivated team through an open, collaborative, and supportive work environment.

• Work closely with the 2IC to ensure the effective day-to-day running of the department, collaborating on staffing, staff reviews, rostering, and leave management.

• Support the professional growth and development of team members by providing technical advice, training, and education.

• Collaborate with the Pathologists to ensure seamless operations and optimal patient care.

• Participate in future planning and policy setting for the department, contributing to its growth and success.

• Monitor and manage efficient stock control and consumables usage to minimize waste and maintain cost-effectiveness.

• Introduce appropriate methodologies to the laboratory, optimizing processes to enhance service quality.

• Organize and prioritize workflow efficiently to meet the company's and client's requirements effectively.

Requirements:

• Registered as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with a specialization in Biochemistry.

• Ideally a minimum of 7 years of experience working in the field of Biochemistry.

• Proven leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.

• Demonstrated expertise in Biochemistry and a thorough understanding of laboratory protocols and practices.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, facilitating effective collaboration and rapport with team members and stakeholders.

• Flexibility to work Monday to Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, with potential after-hour support as required.
