Head of Department – Molecular Pathology Permanent, Full-time Dunedin

About the role | Mō te tūranga:


As the Head of Department (HOD) for Molecular Pathology, your leadership will be pivotal in steering our molecular testing in infectious diseases, oncology, , haematology, and genetics. You will guide a team of passionate individuals, fostering an environment that values collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.


Responsibilities:


· Collaborate with the 2IC to ensure smooth departmental operations


· Mentoring team members to nurture their professional growth by providing training and sharing your expertise.


· Upholding our commitment to high-quality service delivery.


· Collaborate with the Lead Molecular Pathologist to ensure seamless operation and optimal patient care.


· Driving strategic initiatives for departmental growth and efficiency, including the introduction of new technologies.


· Ensuring sustainable use of resources and adopting new methodologies to optimise lab processes.


· Participate in future planning and policy setting for the department, contributing to its growth and success.


· Organise and prioritise workflow efficiently to meet the company’s and client’s requirements.


About you | He kōrero mōu To be considered for this role you will need to:


· A degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Molecular Biology, or a related field.


· Postgraduate qualification in molecular pathology, diagnostics or leadership/management desirable.


· Eligibility for registration with MSCNZ.


· Extensive experience in molecular diagnostics, ideally with leadership or supervisory experience in a clinical or reference laboratory setting.


· Experience with next generation sequencing technologies, either in a clinical or research setting, would be highly desirable.


· Proven leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.


· Demonstrated technical expertise and a thorough understanding of laboratory protocols and procedures.


· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, facilitating effective collaboration and rapport with team members and stakeholders.


· Availability for a Monday to Friday schedule, with potential after hours support as required.
