Awanui Labs Dunedin is based at the Dunedin Hospital. The laboratory operates 24/7 and is well equipped.


About the role | Mō te tūranga:

We currently have a leadership opportunity for a high-performing, experienced and dynamic Laboratory Manager to lead our laboratory services in Dunedin. In this pivotal role, you'll oversee a high-performing team and ensure the delivery of accurate, efficient, and high-quality pathology services in line with contractual obligations.


To be successful in this role you need the ability to inspire and motivate others, you will have significant laboratory operational knowledge, and you will be able to continue to build a positive culture of service excellence throughout our laboratory.

Responsibilities:

• Managing day-to-day operations of Awanui Dunedin laboratory services including our Plunket House site.

• Leading and supporting Heads of Department and the Logistics Manager.

• Ensuring timely and quality laboratory outputs, meeting all clinical and service level KPIs.

• Maintaining IANZ accreditation and driving quality and risk management initiatives.

• Working closely with the South Island General Manager and Regional Operations Manager on strategic direction, budgeting, and performance targets.

• Promoting a culture of safety, teamwork, innovation, and professional development.


About you | He kōrero mōu

To be successful in this role you need to have:

• Hold a tertiary qualification in a clinical, scientific, or health-related field (essential).

• Have at least 5 years’ laboratory experience, with proven leadership and management capability.

• Financially astute with the ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.

• Committed to quality improvement, health and safety, and collaborative leadership.

• A strategic thinker who thrives in a complex and evolving healthcare environment.

• A strong communicator who builds trust and connection across clinical and operational teams.

• Experience managing quality systems and sound understanding of Health and Safety regulations

• Willingness to work as part of a broader team to establish efficient and patient centric standard systems across Awanui.

• Demonstrates creative problem-solving skills to navigate challenges effectively.

• Demonstrates a desire for formal management or leadership training to further develop skills.
