Are you passionate about life sciences with a strong technical background in molecular biology? Ngaio Diagnostics Ltd, a New Zealand-owned supplier of life-science solutions, is seeking a Technical Sales Specialist to lead the growth of our Life Science and Molecular Biology portfolio across New Zealand.


This is a national role with a strong business development focus. While based in Nelson, flexible remote working arrangements may be considered for the right candidate.

About the Role

You will be responsible for building and maintaining customer relationships, identifying new opportunities, delivering technical support, and driving sales growth within our Life Science portfolio.


Reporting to the Managing Director and working alongside our wider technical sales team, you will help expand Ngaio’s presence and reputation in New Zealand’s scientific and diagnostics markets.

This is a strategic, customer-facing role requiring technical expertise, commercial awareness, and initiative.


Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, approach, and develop commercial relationships across New Zealand
  • Promote, support, and grow a defined range of molecular biology and life science product lines
  • Deliver pre- and post-sales technical support, product training, and demonstrations
  • Collaborate with internal teams to identify new business opportunities
  • Stay current with market trends, customer needs, and competitor activity
  • Contribute to strategic planning and portfolio expansion
  • Conduct nationwide travel to strengthen customer relationships and promote products
  • Attend scientific conferences, trade shows, and meetings (domestic and occasional international)

About You

You’ll bring a strong foundation in molecular biology and a proactive, consultative approach to engaging with customers. You are:

  • Tertiary qualified in molecular biology or a related field (minimum)
  • Commercially minded with excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Self-motivated, organised, and confident managing a national territory
  • Willing and able to travel regularly within NZ; holds a full NZ driver’s licence

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Sales and/or account management experience
  • Familiarity with New Zealand’s research or diagnostics market
