About the role |Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga
We are currently seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist either with experience or newly qualified in Molecular diagnostics, to join our Pathlab Bay of Plenty team. The position is full-time permanent and will be based in Tauranga.
The role will involve practising as a registered Scientist to undertake diagnostic laboratory bench work within the Molecular department.
Our Molecular department is comprised of 5 Scientists and Technicians who work in conjunction with the Microbiology department that comprises 30 Clinical Microbiologists, Scientists, and Technicians. We operate a variety of automated microbiology and molecular platforms, providing services that cover conventional microbiology through to molecular microbiology and oncology. Our centralised laboratory in Tauranga also supports three hospital STAT Microbiology/Molecular laboratories.

You will demonstrate knowledge, expertise, and skill in the delivery of scientific judgement within the many aspects of Molecular Pathology. Your ability to show initiative and work well with others will see you transition seamlessly into our team.
Our ideal candidates will be able to clearly demonstrate the following:
Scientist – Suitable qualification in Molecular Pathology.
Enthusiasm for continuous improvement.
Good communication skills.
Ability to work in a team, independently, and in collaboration with other teams, with excellent organisation and time management skills.
An understanding of quality control requirements in molecular.
Registration with the Medical Science Council of New Zealand and hold a current annual practicing certificate.
