• Permanent Full-time

• Pathlab Bay of Plenty (Tauranga)

Are you an experienced Biochemistry or Core Laboratory scientist with proven leadership skills looking for that next challenge?

Or an experienced Biochemistry or Core Laboratory scientist looking for that opportunity to step up and develop your leadership skills?

If your answer is “Yes!” to either of these questions, then we would like to hear from you as we have a permanent full-time opportunity.

About the role | Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga

We are currently seeking a Site Lead or Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist with in-depth knowledge and experience in biochemistry and leadership, or with leadership potential, to join our Pathlab Bay of Plenty team. The position is full-time, permanent, and will be based in Tauranga.

The role will involve practising as a registered Scientist to undertake and lead diagnostic laboratory work within the Biochemistry department while also managing a team.

Our Biochemistry department is comprised of 8 Scientists and Technicians who work as part of a 25-strong Core Laboratory team to operate the Biochemistry, Transfusion and Haematology services. Each service has a designated local Site Lead who does not rotate across services. All other Core Laboratory staff rotate through the three services, maintaining the wide skillset required to run this 24/7 laboratory. Site Leads are responsible for the management and development of their allocated staff, as well as the daily operations of the Biochemistry department.

The Pathlab Biochemistry service operates at each of the five Pathlab laboratories, and each has a local Biochemistry lead position. The Biochemistry Service Lead is accountable for the service overall. This means you will be part of the team of leaders operating the Tauranga core laboratory, as well as the team of technical leads managing Biochemistry across the company. This model presents the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded leaders on both cross-discipline and cross-site projects and provides a discipline-specific support network.

The bulk of Biochemistry work at the Tauranga laboratory is run on a state-of-the-art automation line, with some lower volume manual testing. By joining us you will have the opportunity to be at the forefront of Biochemistry Pathology

About you | He kōrero mōu

You will demonstrate knowledge, expertise, and skill in the delivery of a Biochemistry service. Your ability to show leadership, initiative, and work well with others will see you transition seamlessly into our team.

Our ideal candidates will be able to clearly demonstrate the following:

• Senior Scientist – Suitable qualification with a minimum of 5 years’ practical experience in a Biochemistry service.

• Leadership skills and empathy for the team.

• Enthusiasm for continuous improvement.

• A good understanding of IANZ requirements.

• Ability to work independently and in collaboration with other teams, with excellent organisation and time management skills.

• Registration with the Medical Science Council of New Zealand and hold a current annual practicing certificate.

Your normal working hours will be 40hrs per week, day shift, but with responsibility for the smooth running of a 24/7 service, flexibility is essential. In an innovative, dynamic, challenging and rewarding environment, we are committed to providing employment related learning and development opportunities.
