About the role | Mō te tūranga:

Our Microbiology Department is seeking a dedicated and motivated Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team in a permanent, part-time role (32 hours per week), with rostered evening and weekend shifts. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a vital and fast-paced area of our laboratory services.


We’re looking for someone who is eager to learn new skills, works effectively both independently and as part of a team, and takes pride in delivering high-quality, accurate results. You’ll be organised, detail-oriented, and approachable, with a strong commitment to excellence in both scientific standards and customer service. The ideal candidate will demonstrate initiative, precision, and the ability to work confidently with minimal supervision.


Key Responsibilities:


Perform microbiological testing on clinical specimens, ensuring accurate and timely results.

Identify, isolate, and analyse microorganisms using standard laboratory techniques.

Maintain quality control, adhere to safety protocols, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Collaborate with team members and other departments to support efficient laboratory operations.

Document and report results accurately while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

To be successful in this role you need to have:


The ability to work in a methodical manner adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines.

A team focus with initiative, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and possess the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.

Excellent attention to detail, with good record-keeping skills.

The ability to work independently and able to participate in out-of-hour shifts as per the roster provided.

Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practicing Certificate as a Medical Laboratory Technician

Eligibility to work in New Zealand.


If you do not yet have your registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand, we will also consider candidates who are in the process of becoming qualified.
