Technical Specialist - Immunophenotyping, Cell Markers Team

We are looking for an experienced Medical Laboratory Scientist in flow cytometry to join our Haematology Flow Cytometry team at LabPlus, Auckland City Hospital. The position is to lead the Diagnostic Immunophenotyping laboratory testing for Blood and Bone Marrow. This includes Diagnostic Immunophenotyping and Minimal Residual Disease. This position works in a team of Medical Laboratory Scientists and Technical Specialists, with the support and oversight of a Scientific Leader, Laboratory Haematologists, and a Section Leader.

There is a requirement to take part in an On Call roster which covers both the Transplantation and Immunophenotyping areas.

The Haematology Department at LabPLUS provides laboratory tests for the diagnosis and treatment of blood cell and coagulation disorders. Our highly skilled scientific and technical staff work together with a team of haematologists to provide a quality service (paediatric, neonatal and adult) with in depth clinical interpretation.

The Cell Markers Section in Haematology is an integral component of the Haematology and Stem Cell Transplantation service for Auckland City and Starship Hospitals with a referral population of over 1.5 million. It provides a diagnostic and MRD immunophenotyping services for haematological malignancies, holds Childrens Oncology Group Accreditation, and supports clinical trials. It is part of well-established adult and paediatric stem cell transplantation programmes which hold FACT accreditation. A range of tests for Immune Disorders are also done in Cell Markers with oversight by Immunologists. The department has three BD FacsLyric flow cytometers and use Infinicyt and FACSuite analysis software.

About you

You will have experience working in a clinical flow cytometry laboratory service, with an interest in developing and adapting to evolving technologies. A working knowledge of a range of computer applications would be advantageous, as would experience in setting up flow cytometry assays.

You are a proactive and forward-thinking individual who takes pride in delivering work to a high standard, with strong attention to detail and effective organisational skills. You communicate clearly and confidently, enjoy working with people and teaching, and contribute positively as part of a collaborative team. The ability to remain calm, flexible, and effective when working in a busy laboratory environment is essential.
