Technical Specialist, Immunochemistry, LabPlus Auckland

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Technical Specialist to join our immunochemistry team at LabPlus, Auckland City Hospital.

This senior role will provide technical leadership delivering a comprehensive range of Immunochemistry and immunology diagnostic services, supporting patient care across New Zealand.


The laboratory provides a broad range of specialist immunology and immunochemistry testing, including allergy diagnostics (skin prick testing, intradermal testing, allergen-specific IgE, total IgE, tryptase, and Aspergillus IgG), ELISA, serum protein electrophoresis and immunofixation, serum free light chain analysis, IgG subclasses testing, CSF oligoclonal bands by isoelectric focusing (IEF), β2-transferrin analysis, lipoprotein electrophoresis, CK isoenzyme electrophoresis, alpha-1 antitrypsin phenotyping, alkaline phosphatase isoenzyme phenotyping, and other specialised referral assays.


The successful candidate will have extensive experience in immunochemistry and specialist immunology testing and will be responsible for providing technical oversight, leading quality and service improvement initiatives, supporting staff development, performing assay validations and verifications, coordinating staff training, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality testing services.


This position works alongside a team of Medical Laboratory Scientists, with support from the section leader, Chemical Pathologists and Immunopathologist.

• You must have a full registration as a Medical Laboratory scientist with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand. For details, visit www.mscouncil.org.nz/

You will also have:

• At least 5 years’ practical experience with expert knowledge in immunochemistry and specialist immunology testing

• Essential experience in performing, interpreting, and overseeing skin prick testing and intradermal testing

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships with laboratory staff, clinicians, and pathologists

• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality

• Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking skills

• A positive attitude

• A passion for continuous learning and professional development
