This role is a full time position working 80 hours per fortnight. About you Registered Medical Laboratory Scientists and Technicians within the Blood Processing Laboratory are responsible for tasks including blood processing, tissue banking (bone & skin), cryogenic processing of peripheral blood stem cells and bone marrow for transplantation, quality and process control functions. This is a great opportunity for a Medical Laboratory Scientist to secure a permanent role in our Processing Laboratory based in Christchurch. If successful you will be involved in performing a range of duties associated with Processing of blood and blood products, quality and process control procedures. You must be registered as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the Medical Sciences Council of NZ, or you will be seeking to complete your intern requirements before registration with NZMLSB To be successful in obtaining this role you will need to demonstrate excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills and have the ability to achieve the targets and objectives of the Processing department as well as have a particular interest in working at NZBS. You will also have a positive attitude and have the flexibility to fully participate in our roster which includes evening and weekend work. The Diagnostic Genetics laboratory provides a comprehensive service using both cytogenetic and molecular genetics techniques enabling us to resolve clinical diagnoses with a genetic component. We analyse pre and post-natal samples, providing predictive testing, and confirmation of a clinical diagnosis in the management of a spectrum of both malignant and inherited disorders. The Molecular Haematology team provide testing for a range of DNA and RNA based assays related to malignant disorders such as leukaemia and inherited disorders such as thalassaemia. Our portfolio of tests is constantly being upgraded with a view to reducing turnaround times and enhancing our tests to take into account new approaches and international clinical and research data. We are looking for a Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our Haematology team at LabPlus, Auckland City Hospital. This position is for 4 post midnight shifts a week although a mixture of post midnight and day shifts may be considered. Two staff work together in Haematology and provide a vital service to the High Dependency Units on this shift. We deliver a comprehensive service on this shift including blood film examination on all FBC specimens our Rules Algorithm indicates require it, urgent factor assays, anti-thrombin tests and other assays – not just routine Haematology. About the department The Haematology Department at LabPLUS provides laboratory tests for the diagnosis and treatment of blood cell and coagulation disorders. Our highly skilled scientific and technical staff work together with a team of haematologists to provide a quality service with in depth clinical interpretation.
